![]() Non-Definitive Versions were removed from Steam and online stores when the Definitive Versions came out. Hard to find old versions (non-Definitive), but if you do it will be cheap. If you like Co-Op, might want to have the same version as your buds. For older users with low level hardware, it is much better to have the option to use Dead Island Helper, but for those with any decent video card, either way works fine. ![]() *** However most of the same options and more modern settings are in the Definitive Version Options settings. ** Easier to mod the non-Definitive versions, also Dead Island Helper which helps set some settings not available via the in-game Options, does not work with the Definitive Versions ** ** New Game Plus may be more borked in the original Riptide and also in the Definitie Versions per forums - but mostly the work around most mentioned is to save your weapons to your stash NPC before you complete Riptide (Definitive or older version) ** ** Definitive Versions cannot play co-op with non-Definitive Versions ** It is meant to use 64 bit OS more and allows anti-aliasing, etc.Ĥ) Note that the non-Definitive versions all run fine on 64 bit, you can usually force Anti-Aliasing by other methods, and there were basically no bugs really after all the patches.ĥ) There are several YouTube videos showing the differences on PC for Original versions versue Definitive Versions (although a lot seem to focus on trailers parts - it seems the lighting and the look has changed, sometimes for the better, sometimes not). It also was supposedly remastered and may have some other minor patches/changes. Graphics look slightly different on zombies, corpses. Riptide looks very similar to Dead Island overall, but Riptide does have better surface features and seems to handle the high filtering choices better (where DI seems to benefit more from lesser filtering and darker lighting).ģ) Definitive Collection uses Chrome Engine 6, which is supposedly the same one used for Dying Light. With a modern GPU like a Geforce GTX 750 TI there are no real issues. I had to tone certain features down to get the same FPS with an Intel HD 2500 as in DI. ![]() Supposedly some graphics were upgraded, DI does come across more bland on objects and terrain. It also had the highest FPS on older GPUs, I could easily play it on an Intel HD 2500 for example.Ģ) Riptide also used Chrome Engine 5 but was much slower in certain areas (on older or integrated GPUs). Dying Light is also made in Chrome Engine 6.ġ) DI used Chrome Engine 5. Otherwise very similar game).ģ) Definitive Versions made years later with a later version of Techland's Chrome Engine (from version 5 to 6). controlled other playable characters, you can fortify the camps, a few more skills in the character trees, and using each type of weapon also earns bonuses in using them, much like another additional skill tree to boot - consider it weapon class specialty - blunt, sharp, hand to hand, firearms. ( I don't own the Definitive versions, but I've read a lot about them - still caveat emptor)ġ) Dead Island (original version), DLC also were made.Ģ) Riptide (another island, adds weather, one new playable character, a couple different Infected Types/Replacements, in single-player you willl also often fight waves of the enemy with A.I. REVISED POST (Basically, I replayed parts of Original DI and DI Riptide, and I will admit that Riptide looks better - textures are a bit better and more detailed pretty much across the board, it also has medkits and alcohol not requiring a weapon slot each but in ingredients infinite section, DI Campaign and story are better)
